A Great, Big Senior Market!

Sometimes it helps to quantify the ideas we are trying to get across. In the Family, including, we often speak of the “55+ and senior market.” But what exactly does this mean? How many of these people are there and where are they?

Florida’s Office of Economic and Demographic Research (EDR) is a research arm of the Legislature concerned with forecasting economic and social trends that affect policy making, revenues, and appropriations. The figures in this article were extracted from their report on Florida demographics. If you wish, you may view it here.

Here is the bottom line for the coverage area (note that St. Johns is now the 8th county added). Here are the 2020 projected figures by county in alphabetic order:

Flagler total 55+ & senior 48,695
Lake total 55+ & senior 146,384
Orange total 55+ & senior 336,478
Osceola total 55+ & senior 99,897
Polk total 55+ & senior 240,078
St John total 55+ & senior 87,788
Seminole total 55+ & senior 137,354
