What do classic cars and dock jumping dogs have in common? They will be out on display at this year’s Spring Turkey Run in Daytona.
The Spring Turkey Run is an annual event. The tradition has been going for thirty years. The location for this collector car show and swap meet is the infield of the Daytona International Speedway. The Spring Daytona Turkey Run is held at the Daytona International Speedway, 1801 West International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach. One of the largest classic car shows and swap meets in the United States, the Spring Daytona Turkey Run begins this year today, Friday, March 22, and continues through Sunday, March 24. The ticket price is $10, except on Sunday, when the price is $5 per person.
This senior-friendly event has something to offer for every member of the family. The casual spectator might wander through the thousands of cars on display and enjoy the nostalgia. Show entrants are often proud to share the story behind their classic automobiles, so feel free to ask! Another spectator who is a car enthusiast, might head over to the Swap Meet area to look for parts or other memorabilia related to their own specific area of interest. Someone who has thought about purchasing a classic car would also be in luck as there will be 1500 vehicles for sale in the Car Corral area. While looking at all the sights and vendor booths, an ice-cold beer might be in order at the Hops and Hoods Craft Beer Festival. Another area of vendors will include artisans with unique art and fashion items for sale. For the youngest set, bounce houses are located in the Little Gobbler’s Play Zone.
As a special event this year, be sure to check out the DockDogs competition. Anybody entering their dog in the event gets a free admission as a handler for their animal. Dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcome. If your dog loves to run, jump and swim then let them have some fun here. DockDogs is the fastest growing sport on 4 legs. There will be three events for the dogs to participate, the first is Big Air, which can be described as a long jump for dogs. Speed Retrieve is the timed event. The Extreme Vertical is a high jump event.
All of the action takes place on the infield of the two-and-a-half-mile track. There are three entry gates from the north parking lot. The east entrance brings visitors straight into the center of the Show Cars area. The center entrance is the closest to the scooter rental area and the children’s area. The west entrance is the best place to enter for the Swap Meet, and is the designated entrance for the DockDogs competitors. A good plan is to arrive early for the best parking. For many seniors, an all-day outing might require some assistance; scooters are available, as well as free shuttles to transport visitors to the scooter rental area. There are many areas for free parking, this year, including One Daytona, which is across the street from the Daytona International Speedway. One Daytona also offers a variety of entertainment, dining, and shopping opportunities.
Everybody is in for a good time at the Spring Daytona Turkey Run. It is amazing to see the cars from years gone by and compare them to today’s modern vehicles. The numbers and variety of cars to see is astounding. The DockDogs will be an exciting addition to this year’s line up. See you all there!!!!
